Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: January 22, 2010

The Bureau of Reclamation announces the availability for public review and comment of the Draft Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (EA/FONSI) for the Storage and Return of Westlands Water District's (WWD) Central Valley Project Water in the Semitropic Water Storage District (Semitropic).

Reclamation proposes to approve a water banking project in which up to 50,000 acre-feet of WWD 2010 CVP water supply would be banked in Semitropic's groundwater bank and returned to WWD within 10 years so that the water needs during future shortages could be offset by the banked water supply.

The Draft EA/FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=4918.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail mpPublicAffairs@usbr.gov.
