Draft EA/IS Released for the South Bay Advanced Recycled Water Treatment Facility

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Santa Clara Valley Water District (District) have released a joint draft Environmental Assessment/Initial Study (EA/IS) for the District's South Bay Advanced Recycled Water Treatment Facility proposed for construction on vacant property in northern San Jose immediately across from the San Jose/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant (Plant). Reclamation anticipates the associated Federal cost share of this project will be fully funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The proposed facility would treat secondary effluent from the Plant with advanced tertiary treatment to produce high-purity effluent with low total dissolved solids concentration. The high-purity effluent from the treatment facility would blend with tertiary effluent from the Plant and feed into the South Bay Water Recycling system via the system's transmission pump station. The treatment processes at the facility will consist of microfiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet disinfection.
