For Release: September 21, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation's Northern California Area Office (NCAO), in partnership with the US Forest Sevice's Shasta-Trinity National Forest, will host a clean-up event at Shasta Lake's Fisherman's Point Day Use Area on Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., in conjunction with National Public Lands Day (NPLD). The Fisherman's Point Day Use Area is located northeast of Shasta Dam, 10 miles north of Redding, California.

Each year, Americans are asked to participate in NPLD on the last Saturday in September to help clean up the sites they enjoy for recreation. NPLD is the Nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance public lands. An estimated 130,000 volunteers will grab shovels and gloves at over 2,000 sites across the country.

"This is a perfect partnership for the Bureau of Reclamation and the Shasta-Trinity National Forest to work with our neighbors to beautify our surrounding area and provide a positive environment for our visitors," said Cheryl Adcock, Assistant Recreation Officer for the Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area.

A barbecue lunch will be provided after the clean-up. Volunteers will each receive a tee shirt, a certificate of appreciation, and a free pass to enjoy a day at their favorite public land site.

For more information about the clean-up, please call Ms. Sheri Harral, NCAO, at 530-276-2030 or Ms. Cheryl Adcock at 530-275-1587.
