The Bureau of Reclamation reports that several work activities will be ongoing over the next several weeks at Jamestown Dam located north of the city of Jamestown, N.D. According to Jeff Nettleton, Chief of Facility Operation and Maintenance and Engineering Services for the Dakotas Area Office, the work is being conducted as part of Reclamation's ongoing dam operation and maintenance program.

"Jamestown Dam outlet works and spillway stilling basins will be unwatered, cleaned and inspected," said Nettleton. "Such inspections are routinely conducted on about 6-year intervals as part of Reclamation's examination of existing structures program."

The stilling basins were last unwatered, cleaned and inspected in 2004. Releases from the dam will be shut off for several days to conduct the inspections.

The low water crossing of the spillway discharge channel will also be replaced. The channel crossing was removed last spring in anticipation of releases through the morning glory spillway.

Work below the dam is planned to begin during the week of September 21, 2009 and should be completed by mid-October.
