Reclamation Announces Sixth Annual National Public Lands Day Event at New Melones Lake; $6 Day Use Fee to be Waived

The Bureau of Reclamation's Central California Area Office, in partnership with New Melones Lake Water Skiers, Inc., and the New Melones Lake Marina, will host a shoreline clean-up event at New Melones Lake on National Public Lands Day (NPLD), Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. New Melones Lake is located northwest of Sonora, California. The public, organizations, and local businesses are invited to participate. The NPLD is the Nation's largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance the Nations public lands. Earlier this year, President Obama issued a statement calling on all Americans to participate in our Nation's economic recovery during The Summer of Service. On-site registration and check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m., at the New Melones Lake Visitor Center and Museum, 6850 Studhorse Flat Road, Sonora, CA 95370. After registering, the participants will drive their vehicle to assigned work locations in the Glory Hole or Tuttletown Recreation Areas. Refreshments and prizes will be provided at 1:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center and Museum. Volunteers should dress for the summer heat, bring lunch, wear sturdy shoes; and bring work gloves and trash grabbers if possible.
