The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $717, 607 construction contract for plugging the five sluice gate outlets at Arrowrock Dam, which is located on the Boise River about 22 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho.

Mountain States Hydro, LLC, Sunnyside, Wash. was awarded the contract on September 10. Construction will begin in October 2010 and continue through February 2011.

The sluice gates are no longer required for the operation and maintenance of the dam following the replacement of the lower set of ensign valves with clamshell gates in 2004. Reclamation believes this action will improve the long-term safety of the structure as the sluice gates are nearly 100 years old.

The work will include removing existing cast iron sluice outlet liners; designing, furnishing, and installing watertight bulkheads and frames for installation adjacent to existing sluice gates; furnishing and placing cast-in-place concrete for sluice outlet plugs; and pressure grouting and backfill grouting.

The 350-foot-high concrete thick arch dam was constructed in 1915. It is owned, operated and maintained by the Bureau of Reclamation.
