interactive map - click for a larger viewOn Monday, August 31, 2009, the Bureau of Reclamation will begin placing salmonid spawning gravel in the Sacramento River, approximately 1.5 miles downstream of Keswick Dam.  The work is planned weekdays, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is expected to be completed by Friday, September 18, 2009.

The project will replenish spawning gravel for Chinook salmon and steelhead by placing between 9,000-10,000 tons of gravel into the river.  This will help improve Chinook salmon and steelhead spawning and rearing habitat.  This project has been implemented five times over the past 7 years, and this year's work will be identical to all previous years.  This Reclamation project helps meet requirements of Section 3406 (b)(13) of the Central Valley Project Improvement Act, a program to restore and replenish spawning gravel and rearing habitat for salmonid species.
