For Release: August 26, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation has made available for public review and comment a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Kern-Tulare Water District (KTWD) Return of Banked Water Project.

Under the Proposed Action, the Kern-Tulare Water District proposes to return up to 2,790 acre-feet of banked Central Valley Project (CVP) water to the Friant-Kern Canal for direct delivery within the KTWD to meet in-District demands for a period of 5 years, from November 2009 through August 2014. Reclamation intends to approve this return of banked CVP water for delivery when other water supplies are not available. The Proposed Action does not involve any construction activities and would not cause any land use changes.

The Draft EA and FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and are available for a 30-day public review and comment period. The documents may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=4271. If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please call 916-978-5100 (TDD 916-978-5608) or e-mail lwirth@usbr.gov.
