For Release: August 26, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation will temporarily close the roadway across Cascade Dam to the public while maintenance work on the radial gates take place from October 1 through November 30, 2009.

Maintenance of the radial gates is necessary for the continued safe and reliable operation of Cascade Dam. The radial gates control water releases and are essential for regulating lake levels. Work includes removing the existing deteriorated protective coatings, applying new protective coatings, replacing gate seals, and refurbishing guide wheels.

"We realize that this temporary roadway closure will be an inconvenience to the public, but it is essential that we provide a safe working environment for the crews and avoid risks to the general public," said Jerry Gregg, Snake River Area Office Manager. "Access restrictions will include vehicles, pedestrians, and adjacent recreational activities such as fishing."

Cascade Dam is located in Valley County on the North Fork of the Payette River, about one-half mile northwest of Cascade, Idaho, or about 79 miles north of Boise, Idaho.
