Venetia Gempler has been selected as the new Public Affairs Officer for the Bureau of Reclamation's Pacific Northwest Region, announced Regional Director Bill McDonald. Gempler replaces Diana Cross, who recently retired from Federal service.

Gempler reports for duty at the Regional Office in Boise, Idaho on August 3.

"Venetia has the strong communication skills and natural resource background needed to effectively serve as spokesperson for the Pacific Northwest Region." said Mr. McDonald. "Her experience working with the media, the public, and Federal, State, and local government agencies, makes her uniquely qualified for this position."

Gempler comes to Reclamation with 21 years of Federal service and has a wide range of experience in managing national, large-scale communication outreach efforts. In her most recent position, she was the communication director and national spokesperson for the multi-agency Fire Program Analysis planning initiative, hosted by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. She managed communication efforts for the initiative, which included coordinating with the Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Forest Service.

From 2001 to 2004, Gempler worked at the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, where she was a public affairs specialist for the Bureau of Land Management, focusing on outreach efforts in fire prevention, rural fire assistance, and fire information. She worked for the Forest Service on the public involvement plan for the Interior Columbia Basin Ecosystem Management Project from 1996 to 2000. She began her Federal career with the Forest Service in 1988 as a wildland firefighter.

Gempler attended the College of Southern Idaho and Boise State University. She lives in Eagle, Idaho with her husband, and two children.
