Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: July 23, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation has released for public review and comment an Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) analyzing the impacts of the demolition and removal of three ditch rider houses and their associated structures.  Ownership of a fourth house will be transferred to the State of Nevada.  The St. Clair, Smart, and Factory houses are located in Churchill County, while the Fernley District garage is located in Lyon County.

The ditch rider houses were built by Reclamation to provide housing for the operators of the irrigation facilities and are still under Reclamation ownership.  They are now vacant and no longer maintained, utilized, or needed, and they pose a human health and safety hazard.

The EA and Draft FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and may be viewed at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=4012.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please call 916-978-5100 or e-mail lwirth@usbr.gov.

Please send written comments to Ms. Andrea Minor, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 N. Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015, by close of business Friday, August 7, 2009.  Comments may also be faxed to Ms. Minor at 775-882-7592 or e-mailed to aminor@usbr.gov.  For additional information, please contact Ms. Minor at 775-884-8366.
