The Bureau of Reclamation has selected Joe Lyons as the manager of the Bend Field Office in Bend, Ore.

Lyons currently works as a manager in the Water Resources Section of Reclamation's Denver Technical Service Center, where he supervises the development and maintenance of technology relating to surface and ground water supply, water utilization, water conservation and water rights. He replaces Leo Busch who recently retired.

Mr. Lyons has worked for Reclamation for 23 years. He recently completed Reclamation's Leadership Development program which included detail assignments at the Western Colorado Area Office and the Montana Area Office.

"With his strong background in water resources, he'll be a big asset to the Bend Field Office," said Jerry Kelso, Area Manager at Reclamation's Columbia-Cascades Area Office in Yakima, Wash. "He is familiar with water issues and we are very fortunate to have him onboard."

Mr. Lyons has a Bachelor of Science degree in Watershed Sciences and a Master's degree from Oregon State University in Forest Engineering. He begins his assignment in Bend on August 2, 2009.

The Bend Field Office is located in central Oregon and oversees the Deschutes, Crooked River, Tualatin, and Rogue River projects.
