For Release: June 22, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation has selected Dawn Wiedmeier to serve as Acting Area Manager for the Columbia-Cascades Area Office (CCAO) effective July 5, following the retirement of Jerry Kelso who has held that position since 2005.

Wiedmeier will fill the area manager position permanently until a selection for that job is announced officially. She currently serves as CCAO Deputy Area Manager where she has managed a team of professionals involved in a variety of Reclamation programs and activities related to water management.

"Dawn has an excellent working knowledge of CCAO projects, programs and priorities, and solid working relationships with our customers, partners and stakeholders," said Regional Director Bill McDonald. "We are pleased that she is willing to step up to the plate and we're optimistic that she will continue to serve in an effective and professional manner."

Wiedmeier holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Natural Resources Management and has over 28 years of Federal experience with both the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Reclamation. She has been with Reclamation since 2002, first as Deputy Area Manager in the Eastern Colorado Area Office, in Loveland, Colorado, and since 2007 as the Deputy Area Manager for CCAO in Yakima, Washington.

CCAO, headquartered in Yakima, Wash., oversees Reclamation projects in Washington, northern Idaho, western Montana, and central and western Oregon. The office, formerly known as the Upper Columbia Area Office, was renamed following the closure of the Lower Columbia Area Office based in Portland, Oregon, in January 2009.
