The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $2 million contract for transformer replacement and switchyard modification work at the Green Springs Powerplant located on Emigrant Creek about 10 miles southeast of Ashland, Ore.

Koontz Electric Company, Inc., of Morrilton, AR, was awarded the contract on June 12. The work is expected to start around October 18, 2010 and be completed by December 17, 2010.

The Green Springs Powerplant was placed in service in 1960 and has helped meet expanding power demands in southern Oregon and northern California. It is part of Reclamation's Rogue River Basin Project - Talent Division in Oregon.

The generator was rewound and the switchyard rehabilitated in 1993. The facility is maintained and operated by Reclamation and the Project irrigation features are maintained and operated by Talent Irrigation District.
