Reclamation to Host 10th Annual C.A.S.T. For Kids Fishing Event at Shasta Lake

The Bureau of Reclamation, in partnership with the C.A.S.T. (Catch A Special Thrill) For Kids Foundation and Take Pride in America, will host the 10th Annual C.A.S.T. For Kids event on Saturday, June 13, 2009, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Packers Bay Boat Marina on Shasta Lake, approximately 8 miles from Redding, California.
C.A.S.T. For Kids events are outdoor programs that "team up" sponsors and anglers with special needs children for a day of fishing enjoyment. This year, there will be participants from the Shasta County Social Services, California Children's Services, Make A Wish Foundation, Special Olympics, Northern California Burn Foundation, and other local agencies and schools.
The day begins with each child receiving fishing gear, a T-shirt, and a hat. While enjoying breakfast, the children will learn about boating and water safety from the Shasta County Sheriff's Boat Patrol and will be treated to visits by a fire truck from the California Department of Forestry, Smokey the Bear from the U.S. Forest Service, mascot Chipper from the California Highway Patrol, and clowns from the Moose Lodge. The children, their parents or guardians, and their fishing mentors will then head out to enjoy a morning of fishing on Shasta Lake. A barbecue lunch hosted by the Elks Lodge will be served, and the day will conclude with closing ceremonies and awards.
Donating their time, expertise, and boats will be anglers from the Cottonwood Bass Team, Fishers of Men, Red Bluff Bass Anglers, and Shasta Cascade Bass Club, along with several individual boaters. Reclamation receives support for this event from Burger King, Coca Cola Bottling Company, Costco Warehouse, Crown Camera, Frito Lay, Redding Tents and Events, Kent's Meats and Groceries, Mercy Life Support, Snow Mountain Water, North State Ice, Packers Bay Marina, Pepsi Bottling Company, Phil's Propeller, Raley's, ShastaLake.com, Shasta Recreation Company, Wal Mart Distribution Center, Wal Mart Super Center, and Welch Enterprises.
