Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: May 14, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation and the Sonoma County Water Agency, acting as administrator for the North Bay Water Reuse Authority (Authority), have made available for public review and comment a Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the North Bay Water Recycling Program.

As discussed and evaluated in the Draft EIS/EIR, Authority proposes to create a regional wastewater reuse project. The project will enable Authority to recycle treated wastewater and distribute it for agricultural, urban, and environmental uses instead of discharging it to the San Pablo Bay. The proposal allows NBWRA to address the regions water demand concerns and wastewater discharge issues in an integrated manner. The area encompasses 318 square miles of land in Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties.

The Proposed Action consists of distribution facilities, treatment capacity improvements, and water storage to make 6,655 acre-feet to 12,761 acre-feet per year of additional recycled water available for environmental, agricultural, and municipal reuse, consistent with the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, pertaining to the use of treated recycled water. Three public hearings will be held to receive verbal and written comments on the Draft EIS/EIR: " Novato: Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road " Sonoma: Wednesday, June 10, 2009, 2:30-4:00 p.m., Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street " Napa: Thursday, June 11, 2009, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Napa Elks Lodge, 2840 Soscol Avenue
