The Bureau of Reclamation today awarded a contract for $1.1 million to the Western Colorado Wildlife Habitat Association located in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Association will provide wildlife management, operations, and maintenance on several Reclamation properties and projects in the Grand Valley area.

Specifically, the principal components of the work include operation and management of four wildlife properties within the Grand Valley Unit along the Colorado River near Grand Junction. These properties include the Colorado River Wildlife Area; the Grand Junction Wildlife Area; Orchard Mesa Wildlife Area; and DeBeque Wildlife Area.

Reclamation's Acting Commissioner William McDonald said that the Association's responsibilities will generally be to ensure that fish and wildlife habitat replacement developed under the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Program's Grand Valley Unit is maintained and provide daily oversight of the properties for the five-year contract. McDonald said, "This contract represents an excellent opportunity for a Western Colorado organization to assist Reclamation in providing critically important management for prized wildlife areas. Additionally, we are pleased to know that Western Colorado Wildlife Habitat Association, which qualifies as a small business, will keep the work in the local community area."

The complete contract amount is $1,144,343. The properties total 972 acres and are administered by Reclamation's Western Colorado Area Office headquartered in Grand Junction.
