Sections of Highway 128 and Roads Near Lake Berryessa Subject to Temporary Closures/Delays for Triathlons on Saturday and Sunday, May 2-3, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation announces that two triathlons will be held at Lake Berryessa on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, 2009: the 5th Annual "Napa Vintage Half Ironman Triathlon" on Saturday and the 11th Annual "Napa Sprint Triathlon" on Sunday.

The "Napa Vintage Half Ironman Triathlon" on Saturday, May 2, includes a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike ride, and 13-mile run. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the triathlon course will be closed to through-traffic: Knoxville Road along Lake Berryessa's west side will be closed from Pope Canyon Road to the intersection of Highway 128; a stretch of Highway 128 West to Lower Chiles Valley Road; and Lower Chiles Valley Road and Pope Canyon Road. Local traffic will be allowed through by a California Highway Patrol escort as safety permits. All roads are scheduled to be reopened by 3 p.m.

The "Napa Sprint Triathlon" on Sunday, May 3, includes a one-half-mile swim, 11-mile bike ride, and 3-mile run. From 8 a.m. to 12 noon, Knoxville Road along Lake Berryessa's west side will be closed to through-traffic from Spanish Flat Loop Road to the intersection of Pope Canyon Road. Local traffic will be allowed through by a California Highway Patrol escort as safety permits. Knoxville Road is scheduled to reopen by 12 noon.

Lake Berryessa's federally-managed Oak Shores Day Use Area, 5520 Knoxville Road, will be closed to visitors from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009, and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday, May 3, 2009, for the triathlons.
