Reclamation is monitoring Jamestown Dam in anticipation of record water levels which are expected as early as today. Reclamation has mobilized equipment and personnel to the site to monitor performance of the dam during this period when water levels will exceed the previous high elevation of 1445.91 feet recorded during spring flooding in 1997.

"Reclamation does not anticipate serious problems at the dam," said Dennis Breitzman, Dakotas Area Office Area Manager. "However, in the interest of public health and safety we are remaining vigilant with increased monitoring during this period of unprecedented high water levels."

Reclamation continues to collect and analyze date to verify that the dam is performing within prescribed safety factors. Water releases from the dam are regulated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in close coordination with Reclamation.
