Reclamation To Adjust Minimum Releases From Navajo Reservoir To Conserve Water

Media Contact: Pat Page, (970) 385-6560, ppage@uc.usbr.gov

For Release: October 27, 2004

As a result of the low storage level of Navajo Reservoir and to attempt to conserve as much water in the reservoir as possible, the Bureau of Reclamation will be implementing a 250 cubic feet per second (cfs) minimum release from the reservoir this winter. This minimum release will be in effect beginning November 1, 2004, and lasting until the start of the 2005 irrigation season (April 2005), or as determined by the Record of Decision for the Navajo Operations Environmental Impact Statement. It should be noted that releases will only be reduced to 250 cfs if both downstream demands and the target base flow for the endangered fish can still be met. The current release from Navajo Reservoir is 350 cfs.
