The Bureau of Reclamation and the Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) have released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the potential Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project (Project).  The Draft EIS/EIR evaluates the potential effects of the alternatives to expand Los Vaqueros Reservoir.  The document is part of an ongoing feasibility study to determine the type and extent of Federal, State, and local interest in a potential Project.  A Draft Feasibility Report (FR) will be published separately later this year.  A Final FR and Final EIS/EIR are scheduled to be completed by September 2010 and would be the basis for decision making for the Federal, State, and local agencies.

The expansion of Los Vaqueros Reservoir is one of five water storage projects identified for further investigation as part of the CALFED Storage Program that is included in the CALFED Programmatic Record of Decision.  The purpose of expanding Los Vaqueros Reservoir, located in Contra Costa County, California, is to develop water supplies for environmental water management, increase water supply reliability for water providers in the San Francisco Bay Area, and improve the quality of water deliveries to municipal and industrial customers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Five public hearings are scheduled to receive verbal and written comments on the Draft EIS/EIR.  The first hour will consist of a 45-minute open house with participants viewing Project information and interacting with the Project team, followed by a brief presentation.  The second hour will consist of a formal hearing.  The hearings are scheduled:
