Draft EA/FONSI Available for the Exchange of Cross Valley Water Supplies with Other Contractors

Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@usbr.gov

For Release: February 20, 2009

The Bureau of Reclamation has released a Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for public comment. This Draft EA analyzes the exchanges required between the Cross Valley (CV) contractors and other water districts for the delivery of the CV contractors' Central Valley Project (CVP) water supplies from the Delta.  The CV contractors cannot take direct delivery of their Delta CVP water supply and need to enter into exchanges to allow them to do so.

The CV contractors are comprised of seven CVP contractors located on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley in Fresno, Kern, Tulare, and Kings Counties.  These water districts are referred to as the CV contractors because of their use of the Cross Valley Canal for conveying their water supply.  The CV contractors are: County of Fresno, County of Tulare, Hill's Valley Irrigation District, Kern-Tulare Water District, Lower Tule Water District, Pixley Irrigation District, and Tri-Valley Water District.

The Draft EA and Draft FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and are available for public review and comment.  The Draft EA and Draft FONSI are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=3558.  If you encounter problems accessing documents online, please call 916-978-5100, or e-mail ibr2mprpao@mp.usbr.gov.

Written comments must be received by close of business Monday, March 9, 2009, and should be sent to Ms. Judi Tapia, Bureau of Reclamation, 1243 N Street, Fresno, CA 93721.  Comments may also be faxed to Ms. Tapia at 559-487-5397 or sent via e-mail to jtapia@mp.usbr.gov.
