Media Contact: Pete Lucero, 916-978-5100, plucero@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: February 17, 2009

Reclamation announces the availability of the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) to approve Warren Act Contracts for Madera Irrigation District, Lindsay-Strathmore Irrigation District, and Kern-Tulare Water District. Approval of the Warren Act Contracts would allow each district to store up to 10,000 acre-feet per year of their respective non-Central Valley Project (CVP) water supplies in CVP facilities, and/or to convey that water to CVP facilities, when excess capacity exists. The temporary duration of the contracts (up to 5 years) would allow greater flexibility in the timing of water delivery to meet demands of the participating districts.

The Draft EA and Draft FONSI were prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act, and are available for public review and comment. The Draft EA and Draft FONSI are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=3560.
