The Bureau of Reclamation will host a public scoping meeting on February 12 to discuss the environmental assessment process of the proposed title transfer of ownership of Scoggins Dam and other facilities of the Tualatin Project which are located about 5 miles southwest of Forest Grove, Ore.

The meeting will be held at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 150 East Main Street, (Room 113B) from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. in Hillsboro, Ore.

Under the proposed title transfer, the Tualatin Basin Water Supply Project Partners, a group consisting of the Tualatin Valley Water District, Clean Water Services, and the cities of Hillsboro, Beaverton, and Forest Grove, would take on responsibilities that Reclamation currently holds. These responsibilities include facility inspections, emergency action planning, operations and maintenance, instrumentation, engineering analysis and testing, security, and dam safety.

"The public's input is essential to the title transfer process," said Dave Nelson, Resources Program Manager. "Local ownership would give greater control and efficiency which would also result in a savings to the federal government."

The public scoping meeting will give individuals and organizations an opportunity to present their ideas, views, and comments on the proposal and the impacts to be considered.

Written comments can also be sent to Dave Nelson, Resources Program Manager, Bureau of Reclamation, 1201 NE. Lloyd Blvd., Suite 750, Portland OR 97232-1295. Questions about the proposal or the NEPA process can be directed to Mr. Nelson at (503) 872-2801 or drnelson@pn.usbr.gov.
