Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner John Keys recognized a Water 2025 Challenge Grant to the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) during a brief ceremony in Imperial, Calif., on Wednesday, October 27.

The Challenge Grant provides $115,226 in Reclamation funding to the IID. The funding will be used by IID as part of a $230,452 project that will place four independent flow meter sensors along the All-American Canal. It is estimated that as much as 37,500 acre-feet of Colorado River water will be saved by this project.

"Water is our most precious resource. The project we have recognized today is a great example of the spirit of the Water 2025 Challenge Grant program, which supports partnerships that offer innovative, locally-managed solutions to our most pressing water challenges," said Keys.

Following a briefing by IID General Manager Jesse Silva, Keys was given a tour of IID's Water Operations Center.

Water 2025 Challenge Grants - administered by the Bureau of Reclamation - provide water management agencies throughout the West with matching funds to support a variety of projects to make more efficient use of existing water supplies through water conservation, efficiency improvement, and water marketing projects.
