For Release: November 21, 2008

An Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact for a proposed parking lot and related features the City of Yuma wants to build on Bureau of Reclamation lands are available for public review and comment.

The city of Yuma is proposing to construct the parking lot and related project components for its Welcome Center. The City has stated it needs the Welcome Center to provide a facility that will inform visitors to Yuma about the area. The Welcome Center will be in close proximity to the Citys historic downtown area and accessible to Interstate 8.

Reclamation proposes to issue a License (right-of-use) to the City to construct the parking lot and related project components. Since the project will be on Reclamation lands, it is subject to review and documentation under the National Environmental Policy Act.

Copies of the Environmental Assessment and draft Finding of No Significant Impact are available for public review online at: http://www.usbr.gov/lc/yuma/environmental_docs/environ_docs.html.

Comments on these documents will be accepted until December 21.

Comments should be mailed to Mr. Sean Torpey, Environmental Planning and Compliance Group Manager, Bureau of Reclamation, 7301 Calle Aqua Salada, Yuma, AZ 85364. They can also be submitted to Mr. Torpey by e-mail, at: storpey@lc.usbr.gov.
