The Bureau of Reclamation announces that beginning Monday, November 17, 2008, important inspections of three Reclamation bridges will begin.  The biennial inspections are being done in accordance with Federal Highway Administration regulations.

  • On Monday, November 17, 2008, the Judge Francis Carr Powerplant Bridge will be subject to lane closures for extended periods between noon and 5 p.m.  The bridge is located on South Shore Drive, also known as J.F. Carr Powerhouse Road, west of the City of Redding in the Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, off Highway 299 near Mile Post 9.8.  J.F. Kennedy Memorial Drive is recommended as an alternate access to South Shore Drive and the associated trailheads, campgrounds, and picnic area.

  • The Shasta Dam Spillway Bridge will be subject to lane closures for extended periods between 8 a.m. and noon on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.  Access across Shasta Dam is available only with a permit, and permit holders can expect extended delays.

  • The Keswick Dam Spillway Bridge will be subject to lane closures for extended periods between 8 a.m. and noon on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.  The Keswick Dam Spillway Bridge is located on Keswick Dam Road in the City of Redding.

Temporary public safety measures will be in place during the inspections and may include traffic controls such as flag persons and detour signs.  For their own safety, it is important for the public to be aware of and obey the flag person's instructions and/or posted signs.
