Bureau of Reclamation Senior Advisor for Hydropower David Sabo has announced that Kerry McCalman has been selected as the Manager of the Power Resources Office and Martin Bauer as the Compliance Audit and Incident Evaluation Program Manager.

"Kerry and Martin's experience in power operations and management will be a great asset to Reclamation," said Sabo. "Their experience will assist Reclamation as it works to meet the power demands of the future."

As Manager of the Power Resources Office, McCalman will be responsible for oversight and policy of Reclamation's Power Program.

McCalman joined Reclamation in 1998 as the Operations and Maintenance Manager for Reclamation's Snake River Area Office in Burley, Idaho. He then moved to Reclamation's Eastern Colorado Area Office in Loveland, Colo., where he served in the same position. McCalman then accepted a position as Power Manager for the Great Plains Region in Billings, Mont., where he oversaw the operation and maintenance of 21 hydroelectric powerplants. Before accepting this new position, McCalman was the Power Manager for Reclamation's Upper Colorado Region where he provided oversight and management of dams and powerplants on the Colorado River Storage Project on the Upper Colorado River.

In 1994, McCalman was promoted as Hydropower Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Tulsa, Okla., where he managed the operation and maintenance of eight powerplants, five navigation locks, 136 miles of navigation, and all district dams, levees, and flood control structures. Before that, he was Hydropower Test Engineer performing various testing and design on hydroelectric generating equipment. McCalman has an Engineering Physics and Mathematics degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State University.

As Compliance Audit and Incident Evaluation Program Manager, Bauer will lead the compliance verification efforts for Reclamation to meet the requirements of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

Bauer has been working for Reclamation for 24 years and began as a Rotation Engineer in the Mid Pacific Region in Sacramento, Calif. He has been working in operation and maintenance since 1984. Bauer worked on several major power issues in the Mid Pacific Region including leading negotiations on the 1997 Central Valley Project Customer Power Operation and Maintenance Funding Agreement and the customer funding of the rewinding of the generators at Shasta Dam. Between 1997 and 2003, he represented the Mid-Pacific Region in resolving power related issues including the integrated operation of Central Valley Project power facilities and the California deregulated energy market.

In 2003, Bauer moved to Colorado to manage the Operations and Maintenance of the Colorado-Big Thompson and Fryingpan-Arkansas Projects. He graduated from California State University Sacramento in 1983 with a major in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Mathematics.
