For Release: October 07, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation has released a Final Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for a reallocation of refuge water supply. Under the proposed action, Reclamation would reallocate water currently assigned to the Sacramento and Sutter National Wildlife Refuges, which are North of the Delta (NOD Refuges). The NOD Refuges would make water available by revising their 2008 water management plans, thereby freeing up a portion of their water supply to help south of Delta refuges maintain wildlife habitat.

The water will be provided to the Kern National Wildlife Refuge, Grassland Water District/Grassland Resource Conservation District, and other south of Delta refuges owned and operated by the State of California through the Department of Fish and Game.
