Reclamation Solicits Input On the Fernley Right-of-Way Crossings and Land Use EA, Fernley, Nevada

Media Contact: Michelle H. Light, (916) 978-5100, mlight@mp.usbr.gov

For Release: October 03, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation will prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) on the proposed Fernley right-of-way crossings and land use changes requested by the City of Fernley (City).  The EA will analyze the impacts of allowing three crossings of Reclamation's canal easements and issuing a license to cross a parcel of Reclamation withdrawn land.

The proposed project consists of issuing concurrence documents allowing the City to cross Reclamation facilities with pipelines in three locations.  The crossings consist of pipes carrying well water to the ground-water treatment plant and pipes carrying treated water to customers.  The water lines will enable the City to deliver potable water to their customers.

Reclamation is requesting public comment on the project to help identify any potential environmental issues, concerns, and alternatives that should be addressed in the EA.  Public participation will continue as the environmental process proceeds.

Written comments on the proposed Fernley Right-of-Way Crossings and Land Use EA must be received by close of business on Thursday, October 16, 2008, and should be mailed to Ms. Andrea Minor, Bureau of Reclamation, 705 N. Plaza Street, Room 320, Carson City, NV 89701-4015, or faxed to 775-882-7592, or e-mailed to aminor@mp.usbr.gov.  For more information, please call Ms. Minor at 775-884-8366.
