Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Robert Johnson today announced the award of a $3.5 million dollar contract for repair and/or replacement of various canals and drainage structures and four drainage pumping outlet channels in the Yuma, Ariz., area over the next three years.

"These canal improvements will enable Reclamation to increase its groundwater pumping capacity and upgrade its aging drainage infrastructure in the Yuma area," Johnson said.

The contract, awarded to AAK-De Los Santos Construction of Chandler, Ariz., also requires the lining of three miles of canal with concrete.

The Yuma Area Office conducts operations and maintenance on 84 groundwater wells and 90 miles of canal in the Yuma area.
