People are encouraged to get outside and experience these areas, and join in volunteer efforts to preserve and protect these special places.

Shasta Dam is surrounded by public lands administered by the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the National Park Service.

National Public Lands Day keeps the promise of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the "tree army" that worked from 1933-42 to preserve and protect America's natural heritage. For more information on National Public Lands Day visit: http://www.publiclandsday.org
