The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $4.7 million contract for supplying a stator core and winding for Pump Unit P3 at Grand Coulee Dam located on the Columbia River about 90 miles west of Spokane, Wash.

ALSTOM Hydro US, Inc., of Littleton, Colo., was awarded the contract on August 22.

"This work is essential in order to ensure the safe and continued operation of one of this nation's most reliable and productive hydroelectric power producers," Commissioner Bob Johnson said.

The contract with ALSTOM Hydro US also includes disassembly of the pump motor; removing and disposing of one armature winding and stator, and furnishing, installing, and testing one new armature winding and stator core.

Grand Coulee Dam is the largest hydroelectric plant in North America with a generating capacity of more than 6,800,000 kilowatts. It is a multi purpose facility that serves as the centerpiece of Reclamation's Columbia Basin Project, providing irrigation water for more than 600,000 acres of agricultural land.
