Bureau of Reclamation Seeks Public Comments on Plan to Replace Captain Tom Dam

The Bureau of Reclamation has issued a draft Environmental Assessment to solicit public comments on the potential environmental effects of a proposed project to correct safety deficiencies associated with Captain Tom Dam on the Navajo Nation in San Juan County, New Mexico. Proposed corrective measures include replacing the existing dam with a new dam on an adjacent downstream site. The construction will be phased over a two-year period beginning in 2009.
