For Release: July 29, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), lead Federal agency for National Environmental Policy Act compliance, and the Sonoma County Water Agency, acting as administrator for the North Bay Water Reuse Authority and the lead State agency for California Environmental Quality Act compliance, are preparing a joint Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report for the proposed North San Pablo Bay Restoration and Reuse Project (Project).

The purpose of the Project is to increase the amount of recycled water available for agricultural, urban, and environmental uses as an alternative to discharging treated wastewater to San Pablo Bay and to offset potable water supplies to meet current and future needs. The Project would also contribute to mitigation for ground-water basin overdraft in some portions of the study area.

The study area includes diked marsh, tidal marsh, and upland areas that rim the northern edge of San Pablo Bay. The area encompasses about 318 square miles of land, extending approximately 10 to 15 miles inland from the San Pablo Bay within Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties, reaching as far south as Point San Pedro in Marin County, and as far north as Milliken Canyon, located 28 miles to the northeast in Napa County.

Three public scoping meetings are scheduled to solicit comments to assist in determining the scope of the environmental analysis and to identify the significant issues related to the Project. The meetings will be held in:

Napa: Monday, August 4, 2008, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Napa Elks Lodge, 2840 Soscol Avenue. Novato: Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Margaret Todd Senior Center, 1560 Hill Road. Sonoma: Wednesday, August 6, 2008, 6:30-7:30 p.m., Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street.

Written comments on the scope of the Project are due by close of business Wednesday, August 20, 2008, and should be sent to Mr. Marc Bautista, Sonoma County Water Agency, PO Box 11628, Santa Rosa, CA 95406.
