Reclamation's Upper Colorado Region announced today that it will host several informational meetings in late July and early August 2008 at locations in Albuquerque, NM, Grand Junction, CO and Salt Lake City, UT, to discuss revisions to 43 CFR Part 429, the federal rule that addresses issues relating to possession, occupancy, or removal of resources on Reclamation property. The dates and locations of these meetings are listed as follows:

  • Grand Junction, Colorado - Wednesday July 30, 1:00 p.m.
    Reclamation Western Colorado Area Office
    2764 Compass Drive
  • Albuquerque, New Mexico - Tuesday, August 12, 1:00 p.m.
    Reclamation Albuquerque Area Office
    555 Broadway NE
  • Salt Lake City, Utah - Thursday, August 14, 1:00 p.m.
Upper Colorado Regional Office, Bennett Federal Building

The proposed federal rule addresses the cost of recovery of fees for authorized uses involving the possession, occupancy or extraction of any natural resource from Reclamation land, facilities, and water bodies; and/or what uses are prohibited. When finalized, the proposed rule will supersede the current federal rule which was originally published in 1983 and partially revised in April 2006. The proposed revision was first published in the Federal Register on July 18, 2007.

The revisions to the rule were needed to incorporate current Federal mandates concerning the use of Federal land and cost recovery and to meet present Federal regulation standards. Specific questions regarding the proposed rule changes should be directed to: Richard Rizzi at 303-445-2900. The proposed revision to the rule may be viewed in the Federal Register at: http://www.usbr.gov/newsroom/docs/PDF429.pdf
