For Release: July 16, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation has made available the Environmental Assessment and Initial Study (EA/IS) for the Conveyance of Refuge Water Supply for the Mendota Wildlife Area.  The environmental document was developed to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  Reclamation is the Federal Lead Agency for NEPA compliance and the Central California Irrigation District is the CEQA Lead Agency.

The primary purpose for the proposed action is to provide reliable year-round water deliveries to the Mendota Water Agency.  The EA/IS identifies and evaluates the potential affected environment and environmental consequences of implementing the proposed alternative.

The document is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=104
