For Release: July 11, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamation has signed the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for Upper Truckee River Restoration Project Middle Reaches 3 and 4.

Reclamation is providing grant funding to the City of South Lake Tahoe (City) to restore a portion of the Upper Truckee River channel and associated stream-side habitat directly east of the Lake Tahoe Airport. The California Tahoe Conservancy is also providing funding.

The project's objectives are to improve the channel's natural function and deposit sediment into the floodplain more frequently. Benefits include more frequent flooding of a nearby meadow, improved vegetation, more productive fisheries, and improved wildlife habitat.

Reclamation, the City, and the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency released a Draft Environmental Assessment/Initial Study/ Initial Environmental Checklist (EA/IS/IEC) on January 16, 2008, for a 30-day comment period. The Final EA/IS/IEC with comments and responses to comments was completed on April 4, 2008.

The FONSI, Final EA/IS/IEC and Draft EA/IS/IEC are available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/nepa/nepa_project_details.php?Project_ID=2986. If you encounter problems accessing the documents online, please contact Ms. Lynnette Wirth at 916-978-5102 or e-mail lwirth@mp.usbr.gov.
