The Bureau of Reclamation today announced a $985,000.00 contract award to Candelaria Corporation of Glendale, Ariz., for the design and construction of a 3,200 to 3,300 square foot administration building complex in the southeast quadrant of the San Xavier District Cooperative Farm Headquarters. The Farm is south of Tucson, Ariz.

This project is part of Reclamation's implementation of the Southern Arizona Water Rights Settlement Act (SAWRSA). Section 303(a)(1)(B) of the Act, specifically Title III of Public Law 97-293, authorized Reclamation to improve and extend the existing irrigation system on the San Xavier Indian Reservation.

The irrigation system is close to completion, and design and construction of a farm headquarters building is the final major component of rehabilitating the San Xavier Farm.

To date, approximately 900 acres of the farm have been brought into production. Previous work has included extensive land leveling and construction of floodways, flood control features, and an automated high pressure pipeline irrigation system. Other completed projects include Santa Cruz River bank stabilization, sinkholes repaired throughout the Farm, and construction of a new Farm maintenance building.
