Bureau of Reclamation employee, Warren Sedlacek, Natural Resource Specialist at the Cascade Field Office, will be among those honored as a recipient of the 2008 Take Pride in America National Award during a special ceremony on July 18 in Washington, DC.

Take Pride in America is a national partnership program aimed at increasing volunteer service on America's public lands. It is the goal of Take Pride to empower volunteers from every corner of America to maintain and enhance our natural, cultural, and historical sites.

Sedlacek, who will receive the Reclamation Federal Land Manager Award, was recognized for his ability to promote volunteer activities that help to enhance the recreational opportunities at Lake Cascade, while also protecting and enhancing the fish and wildlife habitat at one of Idaho's most popular tourist destinations in the Gem State.

"We are very proud of Warren and everything that he has managed to accomplish at Lake Cascade," said Jerrold D. Gregg, Snake River Area Office Manager. "Over the last 16 years, he has managed to put a positive face to Reclamation's mission of managing public resources."

Take Pride encourages citizen stewardship through an innovative public awareness campaign and an interactive website that showcases volunteer opportunities at natural and cultural sites.

Sedlacek was recognized for his ability to meet the challenge of managing public resources at Lake Cascade which is a constant effort that requires skill, training, and a lot of personal contact with locals in the area. He has also played a crucial role in developing and updating the Cascade Resource Management Plans.

Lake Cascade is impounded by Cascade Dam and located on the Payette River in an area surrounded by mountains, meadows and streams. The lake is a source of water for irrigation, hydroelectric energy, and a variety of recreational activities.

Take Pride Executive Director Katie Loovis also announced the recipients representing National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Land Management for their innovative and successful approaches to recruiting volunteers and cultivating their volunteer programs.
