The Bureau of Reclamation, Grand Coulee Dam Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Columbia Basin Development League will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the construction of Grand Coulee Dam on July 25 and 26.

The theme for the event is "Our Past Empowers Our Future" and activities are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. on July 25 with a release of water over the dam, followed by remarks from dignitaries and honored guests at 5:00 p.m. Reclamation Commissioner Bob Johnson will be among those speaking at the ceremony.

At 8:00 p.m., the musical group "The Wanderers" will perform a number of musical arrangements, including songs made famous by Woody Guthrie. The evening will conclude with the Laser Light Show projected across the face of the dam at 10:00 p.m.

On July 26, there will be a rare opportunity for the public to walk across the dam between 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Security personnel will start screening the public at 7:30 a.m.

"The celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Grand Coulee Dam is a time for us to pause and reflect on national benefits of hydropower, irrigation, and flood control that past generations had envisioned and to consider the important role the dam will continue to provide as we move into the future," said David Murillo, Grand Coulee Power Manager.

The Grand Coulee Dam Visitor Center, with interactive displays, is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and tours of the Third Power House are given daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All activities are free to the public.
