The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $223,805 contract to Wildcat Construction Company, Inc., of Topeka, Kansas for bridge maintenance work on the spillway at Webster Dam. The work is scheduled to begin in mid-July and should be completed by the end of September.

The work on the bridge is considered routine maintenance and consists of replacing the expansion joints, some concrete repairs, and overlaying the bridge deck. Reclamation is coordinating with the Kansas Department of Transportation on the project.

It will be necessary to close the bridge (K-258 highway across the dam) during most of the construction work. A gravel road detour will be available for local traffic. Truck traffic is encouraged to use Kansas Highways 18 and 183 as alternate routes. Public notice of the specific date of the road closure will be provided.

Webster Dam, located 8 miles west of Stockton, Kansas, is the principal feature of the Webster Unit which provides flood control for areas downstream of the dam, irrigation water to 8,500 irrigable acres, fish and wildlife conservation enhancement, and recreational opportunities.
