The Bureau of Reclamation and Echo Resorts, Inc., a management entity at Echo Reservoir, have suspended electrical power to campground trailer sites at the reservoir to bring those facilities up to safety codes. The joint action comes as a result of inspections conducted by Reclamation and Summit County officials.

Other issues include a ban on fireworks and open campfires. The bans are driven by hazards related to the proximity of recreational trailers to each other. Also of concern is unauthorized accessing of electrical breaker boxes in the South Beach area.

The suspension of power only affects the camping facilities at the South Beach and North Marina and is expected to be temporary. The power suspension will not impact boating, fishing and other water related recreational activities. The food service facility located at the North Marina is also unaffected. The reservoir is currently at 100 percent capacity. Reclamation encourages boaters to safely enjoy boating and fishing opportunities this holiday weekend. Echo Dam was completed in 1931 and is a key component of the Weber River Project. Reclamation's managing partners for Echo Reservoir are the Weber River Water Users Association and Echo Resorts, Inc. Water delivery and operation of the project is not affected by the action.
