Boat Removal Beginning at Reclamation's Folsom Lake Due to Dry-Year Reservoir Conditions

Media Contact: Pete Lucero, (916) 978-5100, 06/19/2008 21:27

For Release: June 19, 2008

Folsom Lake Marina at the Bureau of Reclamation's Folsom Reservoir has begun notifications that boats will need to be removed from the marina by July 2, 2008, when the lake level will be about 412 feet in elevation.  Boat removals at this time of the recreation season are unusual and result from dry conditions and operational needs.

Releases to the American River are being made to meet downstream water quality requirements.  The releases are lowering the lake level by about ¾ foot per day.  The 2008 water year is one of the driest on record, and although Folsom Lake storage levels are currently about 540,000 acre-feet, the forecast shows that the lake will reach elevation 412 around July 2, 2008, and will continue to be lowered at a rate of about ½ to ¾ foot per day throughout the rest of the summer.

Please note that several boat ramps will remain open for the rest of the summer for boaters wishing to use the lake during the day.  The fuel dock at Folsom Lake Marina is expected to be in operation until mid-August.  Boaters are asked to think safety first by following the speed limits and being cautious in avoiding debris and natural high spots in the reservoir.
