Media Contact: Brad Dodd, 970-385-6557, bdodd@uc.usbr.gov

For Release: October 06, 2004

Reclamation has released a draft environmental assessment (EA) describing the proposed relocation of the Vallecito Dam Road (Forest Service Road 603) downstream of Vallecito Dam. The relocation will be accomplished by the Forest Service and is needed for public safety, reliable access, and security.

The draft EA identifies five alternatives, including no action. Under the preferred alternative, the road would be relocated on Reclamation property downstream from Vallecito Dam.

To receive a copy of the draft EA or to ask questions, contact Brad Dodd at 970-385-6557. The draft EA is also available on our web site www.usbr.gov/uc/envdocs under the Environmental Assessments heading.

Comments on the EA can be mailed to Brad Dodd, at the Bureau of Reclamation, Western Colorado Area Office, 835 East Second Avenue, Durango, Colo. 81301, or emailed to bdodd@uc.usbr.gov. Comments should be provided by Friday, November 12, 2004.
