Shasta Dam Visitor Center to Begin Summer Tour Hours

The Bureau of Reclamation will begin the summer tour schedule at Shasta Dam on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Daily tour start times are 9 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m., and 3 p.m. These free and informative tours are a "must-see" for visitors planning to be in the Redding, California, area.

Join the friendly, knowledgeable guides on a visit through the Nation's second-largest concrete dam. Tours include a visit to the powerplant and spillway area at the base of the dam. Learn more about the fascinating history and continued importance of this amazing structure.

Visitors are encouraged to arrive 20 minutes before the tour time and should park at the Shasta Dam Visitor Center. The tours begin with a short walk on the dam to the second tower. No bags, backpacks, electronic devices (including cameras and cell phones), or any weapons (including small pocket knives), are allowed on the tour. Tours last approximately 1 hour.

The visitor center is open year-round, 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A free video version of the tour is available in the auditorium, along with displays and exhibits explaining the dam's construction history.

Shasta Dam is located approximately 10 miles north of Redding, California. Exit at Shasta Dam Boulevard (exit 685) off Interstate 5 and drive west 6 miles to the dam.
