AMWG to Meet in Phoenix on Colorado River Topics

Salt Lake City, UT - The Bureau of Reclamation announced today that the Adaptive Management Work Group (AMWG) will meet May 22-23, 2008 in Phoenix, Ariz., addressing topics related to the Glen Canyon Dam Adaptive Management Program.

The AMWG committee provides a forum for discussion of topics related to the operations and ongoing monitoring of downstream conditions below Glen Canyon Dam. At the meeting, the AMWG will receive a variety of updates or briefings, including: preliminary observations from the recent Glen Canyon Dam High Flow Test, Humpback Chub Comprehensive Plan and Recovery Plan Updates, Science Plan for Fall Steady Flows from Glen Canyon Dam, and an update on the Grand Canyon National Park Science and Resource Management Program. The meeting is open to the public.

The AMWG is a Federal Advisory Committee appointed by the Secretary of the Interior with representatives from federal agencies, Colorado River basin states, Native American tribal governments, environmental groups, recreation interests and contractors for federal power from Glen Canyon Dam. The AMWG makes it possible for the Secretary to receive recommendations from these varied stakeholder interests on how to best protect downstream resources and balance river operations.

The meeting will be held at the Bureau of Indian Affairs, 2 Arizona Center 400 N. 5th Street, 12th floor, Conference Rooms A and B. The meeting will begin at 9:15 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m., MST, on the first day and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., MST, the second day.
