For Release: April 02, 2008

The Bureau of Reclamations Klamath Basin Area Office, working in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, National Fish & Wildlife Foundation, North American Wetlands Conservation Fund, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and PacifiCorp, won the 2007 Oregon Land Board Wetland Award.  Oregon's Governor Ted Kulongoski will deliver remarks at the annual awards ceremony on April 8, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. at the State Lands Board, 775 Summer Street, NE, Salem, Oregon 97301.

In 2004, the Oregon State Land Board began recognizing worthy projects and efforts that promote responsible, sustainable stewardship of State resources that benefit Department of State Lands-related programs.  The partners earned the recognition for the Williamson River Delta Restoration Project.  Since April 1996, the organizations have been engaged in a project on the Williamson River where it empties into Upper Klamath Lake.  An estimated 3,500 acres were restored to wetlands at a cost of $10.4 million.  Benefits are expected to include better habitat for endangered fish, enhanced water quality, and improved native wetlands for migratory waterfowl.
