The Bureau of Reclamation awarded a $3.9 million contract for repair service at Grand Coulee Dam and Powerplant located on the Columbia River in north central Washington. Pacific Tech Construction, Inc., of Longview, Wash., was awarded the contract on March 13.

The contract calls for replacing the roof of the Powerplant and related buildings. The work is expected to begin sometime in April and be completed around September 2008.

This work is essential in order to ensure the safe and continued operation of Grand Coulee Powerplants, said Commissioner Robert W. Johnson. Maintaining our facilities is a priority for Reclamation.

Grand Coulee Dam was completed in 1942 and today serves as a multipurpose facility providing water for irrigation, recreation, fish and wildlife, hydroelectric power production, and flood control.
