For Release: March 20, 2008

Water flows in the Boise River will increase as releases from Lucky Peak Dam will be increased in mid-April 2008 due to the recent spring weather and near-normal snow pack conditions. These releases will help reduce the risk of flooding later in the spring, which can occur with rapidly melting snow and precipitation.

Current water storage in Boise River reservoirs is about 49 percent of capacity. Flows will likely range between 3,000 to 5,000 cubic feet per second in the coming months. A full supply of irrigation water is anticipated.

The public should be aware of the danger associated with these increased flows. The water is deep, velocities are high, and water temperatures are near 45 degrees. Extreme caution should be used when near the river banks.
